WE START WITH SUPPORT

Upside413, formerly the Berkshire County Regional Housing Authority (BCRHA), has been dedicated to supporting Berkshire County residents since 1980. Initially, UpSide413 acted as a local housing authority for the 23 towns in the county without their own, providing essential housing services and technical assistance.

Recognizing the need for a broader range of support, UpSide413 expanded its mission in 1988. Beyond traditional housing management, we began offering housing and legal counseling, foreclosure prevention, and dispute resolution programs. We also introduced the Tenancy Preservation Program (TPP) to prevent homelessness and launched various anti-poverty initiatives. The TPP program has extended its services to the Pioneer Valley region.

UpSide413 is more than a housing authority; it’s a lifeline for the community. It is a court-approved mediation program, a HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency, and a key player in foreclosure prevention in the Berkshire region. In collaboration with Hearthway, UpSide413 established the Housing Consumer Education Center (HCEC) in 2001, which now serves as the umbrella for all their shared programming and services.

Upside413 continues to be a primary provider of housing stability and homelessness prevention services in Berkshire County, ensuring that residents have access to the support they need for a secure and stable living environment.

The mission of Upside413 is to develop opportunities that will assist Berkshire County households in securing the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to achieve self-sufficiency and household stability by:

  • Developing and implementing a continuum of services and programs that address the underlying causes of household instability and homelessness.

  • Assisting households to develop strategies to overcome barriers to self-sufficiency.

  • Collaborating with other human service providers, including grassroots organizations and faith-based organizations, to alleviate the causes and effects of household, housing, and community instability.
